Since you already know our engagement etiquette, now it’s time for the nitty gritty. Asking. The. Question. We know you’ve got butterflies-as you should. But if you follow these five easy steps, we guarantee a YES!
1. Go shopping :)
Probably the most important part of the proposal is the ring itself. Do some covert research and find out what she likes! Gold or platinum? Diamond or colored stone? Big and flashy or demeure? If their style’s super unique maybe opt for a custom ring! You can also check out some of our ring guides here and here ;)
2. Determine your partner’s style!
Is their favorite date an intimate outing with just you? Or do they thrive surrounded by friends and family? Knowing this will help you decide what type of atmosphere you want to create before popping the big question! You want to make sure they’re in their most comfortable environment, cause trust me, you’re not gonna be the only one that’s nervous!
3. Pick your location
This should be something special but not too out of the ordinary that it raises suspicion. The perfect proposal is all about timing, it has to be unexpected yet embraced. This means that you may need to pick a location that is familiar to both of you- you’re favorite hiking spot, a family members house, your own living room, outside of your favorite restaurant, etc. Also make sure it makes sense- a beach trip in January might not be the best idea, haha!
4. Hire a photographer
This could be as simple as recruiting a close friend with a nice camera to hide in the bushes! But whatever you do, you’re going to want to capture this special moment. You could even turn it into an engagement session right after like this couple did!
5. Fluff it up!
This is where the fun starts. You should add elements that are uniquely you and epitomize both of you as a couple. Whether that’s creating a heart with their favorite type of flowers and getting down on one knee in the center of it, or playing your partner’s favorite song. Do you incorporate a favorite food, movie line, or memory? This is where you recruit a trusted source, i.e., a BEST FRIEND, colleague, or family member to help bounce ideas off of and don’t be afraid to get creative!
Remember, whatever you do they will adore. You’re their person and no matter how big or small of an event you can pull off, their going to be elated either way just because you’re the one who did it. Have fun and good luck! Xoxo
